Product Insights
Pecan Halves from The Fresh Chile Company are raw, unseasoned, mostly Western Schley halves from a four-generation Salopek family orchard in New Mexico's Mesilla Valley, where the region's heat and 100°/60°F swings give them a deep toasted-nut taste that buyers call the best they've ever had. The 4 oz sampler jar offers a dense-flavored medium nut, plump and juicy per reports, but the premium comes with tradeoffs: the per-pound price runs about 60% above Texas commodity halves (a 12-jar bundle cuts that), the kernels are ungraded so expect mostly intact halves with some smaller pieces, and the natural ~74% oil content means a 30g serving packs 20g fat while raw halves lose sweetness and turn rancid over months unless kept cool—refrigerate or freeze after opening for 6+ months. The same halves become the brand's Hatch Green Chile Pecans, so the jar doubles as a DIY base (add soy oil, Hatch chile powder, and sea salt), and they hold up well in baking, though heat and humidity accelerate rancidity.
Verified claims
- Flavor
- Mesilla heat and 100°/60°F swings give these halves a deep toasted-nut taste.
- Provenance
- Grown in New Mexico's Mesilla Valley by a four-generation Salopek family orchard.
- Freshness
- Raw halves lose sweetness and turn rancid over 12 months; cool storage keeps them fresh.
- Price per pound
- About 60% above Texas commodity halves per pound; the 12-jar bundle cuts that premium.
- Variety
- Mostly Western Schley halves, a medium nut chosen for dense flavor over jumbo size
- Quality
- Buyers report plump, juicy pecans they call the best they've ever had
- Uniformity
- Not USDA-graded: expect mostly intact halves with some smaller pieces
- Format
- 4 oz sampler jar; the same halves become the brand's Hatch Green Chile Pecans
- Storage
- After opening, refrigerate or freeze for 6+ months; heat and humidity speed rancidity.
- Grading
- These are ungraded halves, so expect mostly intact pieces with some broken bits.
- Origin
- Pecans come from Salopek Orchards, a four-generation New Mexico family orchard with 50+ years in the Mesilla Valley.
- Use cases
- The 4 oz jar is a sample size; raw halves can be coated at home to recreate the Hatch Chile Pecans.
- DIY coating
- Pecan halves, raw and unseasoned; the brand's chile version is these plus soy oil, Hatch chile powder, and sea salt.
- Baking performance
- Buyers report fresh, raw, unsalted pecan halves hold up well in holiday cookies and pies.
- Gift appeal
- Reviewers call them the best pecans they've had; gift recipients finish the bag fast.
- Snacking appeal
- Buyers eat these straight from the bag, calling them the best pecans they've had.
- Kernel grade
- Ungraded natural mix, mostly Western Schley; smaller pieces reflect the variety, not defects.
- Fat density
- Pecan halves run ~74% oil, so a 30g serving packs 20g fat (26% of daily value).
- Satiety
- A sensory panel rated raw halves healthy, satisfied, comfort; a second portion adds another 20g fat.
- Shelf life
- Rancidity rises and sweetness fades in raw halves over months of storage.
- Size options
- Sizes 4 oz, 8 oz, 16 oz and 5 lb; the 4 oz empties before rancidity, the 5 lb relies on freezer.

Best pecans I ever had
They're right pecan house and they're actually cheaper than getting them for my local Walmart
Loving me some Pecan
I just LOVE the fresh, delicious, meaty, creamy, and delicious pecan halves that you deliver to my door! I can't say enough about how they blend in my smoothies like butter and toast up in my granola for added delish that makes my day. I LOVE your products. Thanks for the quality job you do with your pecans and sauces.
Like I remember!
When I was a kid (1960s), my mom always ordered fresh pecans from a farm for her Christmas baking. They were plump and juicy, and so fresh! Since then, I’ve bought pecans from a grocery store, and I’m always disgusted because they are dried out and shriveled. I was putting together my first order at the Fresh Chili Company, and I decided to add a pound of the pecans (from a neighboring farm). I could not believe it! These are absolutely fabulous, the way I remember them as a child! They are large and plump, and soft when you bite into them! If I can stop eating them by the handful, I’m going to bake something! I’ll definitely be stocking up! I haven’t tried the other items I received (I can’t wait), but I was so excited about these, I had to write a review. I couldn’t be more impressed with the customer service and the quality of the products!
