Watch Out For
Community Q&A
- Is Route actually worth paying for?
- Community is divided: some report easy refunds, but many argue it is unnecessary because the seller is legally responsible and credit cards offer chargeback protection.
- Who is responsible if a package is lost or stolen?
- Under FTC rules, the seller is responsible until the buyer receives the order, so buyers should not need extra insurance.
- Does Route cover packages marked as delivered but not received?
- Route insures lost, stolen, and damaged packages, but if marked delivered, proving theft is complicated and may require video evidence.
Compared To
vs Credit card chargebacks
Many commenters argue buyers can use credit card chargebacks instead of paying for Route because sellers are already responsible.

Seller legally responsible for delivery
Correct. FTC laws state the seller is responsible until the order is in the hands of the buyer. Damage, loss, theft etc. is on the seller.

Positive refund experience with Route
I used it recently and was really glad I did. My item arrived with some damage, tbh it wasn't very well packaged so I contacted dk and they told me to contact route, which I did and I was given a full refund gift card within minutes with absolutely no hassle.

Route offloads customer service to third party
Yup. I also dislike the whole idea of shipping insurance. The few times things go bad the company should just step up for the customer. It’s called customer service. Offloading their customer service to a third party and charging for it is weak.

Chargebacks as buyer protection
Packages arriving to you safe and secure is the seller's responsibility. I would never pay for insurance on behalf of the seller. Chargebacks are your protection against retailers who don't take responsibility for getting to you in one piece.

Route protects seller not buyer
Your order isn’t protected with Route, the *seller* is protected from you when you buy the service. It’s basically a scam.

Route coverage and marked delivered
route protection insures lost, stolen, and damaged (non-cosmetic) packages. but yours was marked as delivered, which makes things complicated.
