Product Insights

This is a premium New Mexican chimichanga built around certified Hatch Valley-grown, fire-roasted chiles with a medium heat (3-4/10) and smoky depth, delivering 19g protein per 165g unitβ€”more than comparable frozen beef-and-green-chile optionsβ€”and hand-rolled and flash-frozen in Deming, NM by Amigo's Mexican Foods. The authenticity comes with tradeoffs: a 10-count bag costs $70 (about $7 per chimichanga, roughly triple typical frozen fare), each unit packs 1,380mg sodium (60% DV), and shipping can arrive thawed or damaged, forcing immediate cooking within 24 hours. The classic serving is Christmas-style with red and green sauces or smothered, and air-frying restores crunch, but wheat and dairy mean it's not gluten-free, and one unit is a snack rather than a full dinner.

Verified claims

Provenance
Filled with Hatch Chile Association-certified chiles grown by a fifth-generation Hatch Valley farm and produced at its own Deming, NM plant.
Roasted flavor
The Hatch chiles are fire-roasted, and valley fruit carries 23% more roasted-aroma pyrazines.
Heat profile
Hatch's designed cultivars span ~900 to 12,000+ SHU, versus Anaheim's 500–2,500.
Serving tradition
New Mexican chimichangas are classically served Christmas-style with both red and green chile sauces, and the store's guide leads with green chile.
Sodium
One unit contains 1,380 mg sodium β€” 60% of the daily value β€” more than double a mainstream frozen beef-and-green-chile chimichanga.
Producer
Amigo's Mexican Foods makes this FCC-HCS-Frozen bag β€” USDA-inspected Deming, NM, since 1978, owned by The Hatch Chile Store
Nutrition
19g protein per 165g unit; comparable Jose Ole beef & cheese has 11g
Preparation
Hand-rolled, flash-frozen in New Mexico; store directs smothering Sonoran-style with chile sauce, cheese and sour cream
Serving traditions
Served Christmas-style with both red and green chile sauce, or smothered with green chile, cheese, sour cream and pico.
Chile origin
Hatch chile filling is certified Hatch Valley-grown and roasted, not generic Anaheim.
Hatch chile
Hatch chiles are certified Hatch Valley grown, fire-roasted, and medium-hot (3–4/10)
Protein
Each chimichanga has 19g protein, 4g more than Don Miguel's beef and green chile.
Cooking methods
Air-fry from frozen at 400Β°F for 10–12 minutes restores the crunch; microwaving all the way doesn't.
Shipping condition
Ships with dry ice, but buyers report thawed or damaged boxes; inspect on delivery.
Allergens
Contains wheat flour tortilla and dairy cheese, so it is not gluten-free.
Portion planning
One chimichanga is a snack; two make a dinner at 2,760mg sodium and only 2g fiber.
Meal prep
Frozen 10-count bag stores 12+ months at 0Β°F; air-frying adds no oil and it bakes into casseroles.
Heat level
Hatch chile heat is medium, roughly 3-4 out of 10, spicy but not overwhelming.
Chile character
Fire-roasted Hatch chile adds smoky depth beyond canned Anaheim
Sauce pairings
Green sauce matches the filling's heat; red sauce adds 1,500–2,500 SHU
Arrival condition
Some buyers report frozen dry-ice shipments arriving warm or damaged.
Freezer storage
Frozen arrivals keep 12+ months; thawed arrivals need cooking within 24 hours and no refreeze.
Weeknight prep
Three chimichangas air-fried from frozen cook in about 9 minutes; one is a snack, two make a dinner.
Meal formats
Home cooks bake the 10-count bag into a casserole with enchilada sauce or serve each chimichanga smothered with green chile sauce.
Per-unit value
A 10-count bag costs $70 β€” about $7 per chimichanga, roughly 3x the $2-class frozen option.
Spiciness
Heat is mild to medium at 3-4 on a 1-10 scale
Freezer shelf life
Sealed at 0Β°F, the bag keeps for 12+ months.
Thaw handling
Thawed units must be cooked within 24 hours and cannot be refrozen.
Warm-arrival risk
One buyer reports warm-weather shipments can arrive thawed, sometimes in ripped, re-taped boxes.
Portioning
Each 165 g unit is one serving, so the 10-pack yields ten single-serve meals.

Hatch Chili Co. NEVER disappoints! Everything I have ordered is beyond expectation! Flavor is exactly how it should be. Fresh. Delectable. Mouth watering good! From the rellenos, tamales, or hatch chile salsa! 🌢️Once you try the Hatchup, you will NEVER use Ketchup again! Absolutely the BEST! Thank you!

Where’s the beef?

These have a good taste but the beef in them is almost nothing! These should be called cheese and potato. Very dissatisfied with this product. I do not recommend until they put some meat in them!

They were ruined when I received them. The box was ripped and re-taped and all contents were hot!

Beef & cheese chimichangas

The flavor is outstanding but it was a challenge cooking them. There were no instructions with them so I had to find it on their website. I tried deep frying them. They browned and crisped up beautifully but we’re cold inside so I ended up microwaving them to completely heat through. Will completely thaw next time then fry.

I ordered medium "heat" beef burritos and they are delicious. Might be a tad too much tortilla, but on the other hand, the innards stay put when heated up.
