Product Insights

Hand-rolled in Hatch, New Mexico, with certified Hatch Valley flame-roasted chiles, this chimichanga is an authentic New Mexican freezer staple — a filling-forward, 5.8-oz (165g) shredded chicken and cheese bundle that delivers 18g protein (more than double a standard 3.8-oz grocery version) with a mild-to-medium roasty heat that buyers call a nostalgic guilty pleasure. Its core promise is a crispy, pre-fried shell that re-crisps in an air fryer at 400°F from frozen, standing up to smothering or chopping into tacos, though that crunch softens once doused in green chile sauce, and the 420-calorie, 1,440mg-sodium base becomes a heavier, greasier meal when served with the brand's suggested toppings. The main tradeoff is cost and indulgence: at $70 for a 10-pack ($7 per unit, roughly 9x a typical grocery chimichanga), it's a premium, calorie-dense comfort food — frozen-stable for 12+ months, but thawed pieces must be cooked within 24 hours and cannot be refrozen.

Verified claims

Hatch chile
Hatch chiles are certified Hatch Valley-grown, flame-roasted, and mild-to-medium heat.
Freezer stability
Flash-frozen chiles keep flavor and heat for 18-24 months in a home freezer.
Filling
The filling is shredded chicken and cheese with Hatch chile — 18g protein per serving.
New Mexican authenticity
This is a New Mexican freezer staple meant to be smothered in green chile sauce.
Serving size
Each 5.8 oz chimichanga is 53% larger than a 3.8 oz grocery one.
Value
A 10-pack costs $70, or $7 per 5.8 oz unit — about 9x a $0.75 grocery chimichanga.
Cooking method
Finish by pan-frying, deep-frying, or air-frying from frozen; thawing first makes the tortilla soggy.
Hand-rolled
Hand-rolled in Hatch, New Mexico — not machine-extruded like a standard frozen burrito.
Cooking flexibility
Frozen shell crisps in an air fryer, deep fryer, or pan and stands up to smothering or chopping into tacos.
Crispness methods
Maker's recommended crunchy route: air fry 400°F for 10–12 minutes from frozen.
Sauce smothering
The crunchy shell softens once smothered in green chile sauce.
Serving styles
Meant to be eaten smothered in green chile sauce with a fork and knife, not as a handheld wrap.
Regional authenticity
Positioned as the ultimate New Mexican freezer staple.
Portion size
One 165g serving is 53% larger than a 108g El Monterey chimichanga.
Heat level
Eats mild to medium — buyers say mild enough to skip a drink.
Heat stability
Frozen storage preserves the chile's full heat and flavor for 18-24 months.
Portioning
Each 165g piece is hand-rolled, filling-forward, with 18g protein.
Chile heat
Hatch chile heat is mild-to-medium and roasty — not a burn.
Protein density
One 165g chimichanga packs 18g protein, more than double the 8g in an El Monterey.
Richness
Buyers call it a greasy, calorie-dense guilty pleasure — tasty but not a light meal.
Nutrition
Per 165g serving: 420 calories and 18g protein, with 1,440mg sodium (63% DV) as the binding constraint.
Serving style
The brand's serving style adds sauce, cheese, sour cream, rice, beans and a fried egg on top of the 420-calorie base.
Flavor
Roasted Hatch chile flavor is mild-to-medium, with chicken and a cheddar–American cheese filling.
Preparation
Pre-fried shell re-crisps in an air fryer at 400°F; fans pan-fry and top with lettuce, sour cream, and hot sauce.
Fan sentiment
Buyers call it a nostalgic guilty pleasure; one prefers the beef and green chili version.
Frozen shelf life
Kept frozen at 0°F, the 10-count bag stays good for 12+ months.
Thawing rules
Thawed chimichangas must be cooked within 24 hours and cannot be refrozen.
Cooking methods
Air-fry at 400°F for 10–12 minutes from frozen, no oil, for the crispiest shell.
Recipe community
Purchase includes access to a 37,000+ member Hatch cooking Facebook group.
Serving ideas
Brand suggests sauce-smothered plates, Sonoran-style fried-egg plates, and street-style tacos.
Provenance
They are hand-rolled in Hatch, NM by Amigo's Mexican Foods with flame-roasted Hatch Valley chiles.

No chicken and weird potato things that were not fully cooked

Tricia

No chicken and weird potato things that were not fully cooked. I was disappointed especially with how expensive and no chicken. Like what?

Amazing Product

Scott Puleo

I bought the 575 green and as soon as I got it we had hamburgers and let me tell you right now Randy was right, It’s not going to happen !!! This product is Absolutely Amazing, it’s the best I ever had and fresh, I’m already addicted to this stuff was blown away how good it is and how fresh I will be purchasing more!!!!

Frank

Great service .& Products !!!

Rod

Amazing easy easy to cook and very good with 575 sauce

Paul

Their Hatch chile products are delicious but these are terrible and way too expensive for the quality what a waste of money. No chicken you can identify and slivers of potatoes appear to be found better off buying supermarket bought frozen. Probably won’t buy anything else from them

Not what the posted reviews lead them to be

Brandon Frazier

I have tried cooking these 3 different ways. All 3 ways I thaw them prior, 30-45 seconds in the microwave. I’ve tried frying them, air frying them and even baking them. The tortilla gets so hard it’s inedible in spots. They don’t tell you this but there is something like potato inside these. Everything inside is mush. There are no pieces of meat, and I bought 10 beef and 10 chicken. These are NOT inexpensive. They cost you $7 each. I have $140 worth of chimichangas. I cooked 1 of each flavor, 3 different ways so I have used 6. So I get to throw away 14 chimis. I hope this site is not keeping honest reviews out. If I check and my review isn’t published I’ll make sure I leave reviews elsewhere and let people know they are not posting all reviews. This is really bad. Had they been less expensive it wouldn’t bother me so bad. But $140 for chimis that don’t even taste as good as the frozen grocery store ones? Wow.

Heavenly

Denise Little-Miller

Sooo, sooo good! So good I just placed another order! Wonderful in the air fryer!

Shipping Process Very Poor

Howard White

The product (Rellenos & Chimichangas) must be good, the shipping process is NOT! Twice I have ordered, shipping takes two to three days. there was no dry ice, just insulation around what I am sure was frozen when shipped. By the time they arrived on my porch (and they did NOT sit out in the heat either) they were thawed and all mushy. When I tried to call customer service it took several days for a call back and the order resent. The second order was packaged the same exact way with the same ugly result. I tried to call Customer Service last week, never got a return call. While the canned pepper products are great, I can't say the same for shipping of these frozen products, nor the customer service responsiveness. By the way, these items shipped from OHIO, NOT New Mexico!!! For us Texans, that's a long way to get around the barn, with frozen items.

Great Chimichangas

Linda Shelton

They are so easy to heat up and have a wonderful flavor!

B.M.

These were so good

Best chimichangas ever!

Kristi Bright

These are the best chimichangas! Hatch green Chile adds a fantastic flavor and just the right amount of heat. Cooked in the air fryer a couple of extra minutes - crispy crunchy goodness!

Delicious!!!

Jennifer Hurley

Loved 'em!!!

Chimis

Mary Amm Dunbar

I apparently will have to reassess my ordering frequency. They are all gone already.

Not sure what happened?

Paul Furey

All flour tortilla and very little cheese and even less chicken. $5 each Sad! I was so anxious when I got them. 😞 Maybe just a poor patch perhaps. I’m not asking for any return money or anything I just wanted to give you information about it.

Amazing

Pamela beene

They are delicious!

Awesome!

Scott Jennette

They are awesome!

These are a hit

Shirlee B

These green Chile & chicken chimichangas separated easily in the frozen bag. A definite plus if serving a small batch. I popped them in a 400 degree oven while my rice side cooked. They were perfectly crispy and delicious in about 10 minutes. Love these!

Chimichangas

Ruth Evans

Shipping is terrible. The chimi's arrived completely thawed and at room temperature. They were in a box in a big shipping box and completely uncushioned. They were bouncing around like a loose cannonball. They were in a plastic bag all smooshed together and the ouside crust was flaked off. I am sure the quality suffered and I am not completely sure they are safe to eat. So, they are sitting in my freezer. Will not order any prepared food again

REALLY GREAT WITH THEIR CHILIE RELLENOS IN A COMBINATION PLATE

Staying in for Mexican food!

Ken D Tew

Love having them handy for that Mexican food craving (which is often!). Thaw for a while on countertop, heat in lightly oiled pan stovetop for about 10 minutes low heat. Convenient and quick! Yum!

Excellent Quality

Russell Frew

The convenience of having an excellent quality frozen product to make a quick mid-week meals is second to none. You won't be disappointed especially if you add some Green Hatch Chilies over the top. Enjoy!

Veggie tamales and chili rellenos

Steven

The veggie tamales were good but I really liked the rellenos. Prepared correctly they’re delicious even without a sour cream or cheese sauce. Will be ordering more.

Yes

Paul Brown

Chimichangas are excellent. Chicken and cheese with a nice pepper punch. I recommend

Great quick meal

Tammy Benolkin

These are really delicious. Loved they had air fryer directions which is about all we use. We crisped a bit longer at 400deg in the air fryer and they were nice and crispy. Smothered in Fresh Chili Red and was taken back to NM from IN.

Ready made chimichangas

Jon R. Johnston

This product was pretty good for ready made meals. I just followed the instructions for thawing and added some enchilada sauce and lettuce. The taste is satisfying especially when combined with FCC sauce. It costs a little more than my liking but with the subscription discount, I can do it a few more times.

Guilty pleasure. I could eat like 5 in a sitting - the beef and green chili ones are better. So bad for you but a tasty meal all the same

  • Recommended pan-fry preparation with toppings

Best way to make these is thaw em in microwave for a minute or two then pan fry. Top with lettuce, sour cream, and hot sauce 👌🏼👌🏼 And serve with beans and rice if you’re feeling fancy.
